Sports First aid

Course Description:
Prepares learners to assess an incident, recognise the signs and symptoms of injury and illness and assist a casualty in a safe and effective manner, with emphasis on doing this in a sport and fitness context. This course is a hybrid course giving candidates a Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work with a sports emphasis.

Course Content:
Learner will complete the following mandatory units:

• Emergency first aid in the workplace

The additional content focusing on a sports environment will also be taught:

• Management of soft-tissue injuries and return to play protocols
• Management of concussion and return to play protocols
• Management of suspected spinal injuries
• Management of medical conditions in sport
• Management of fractures and dislocations
• Moving a casualty in a sports environment
• Management of bleeding injuries in sport

The course will involve role play practical scenarios where learners will get the opportunity to deal with the type of sports related injuries they will deal with in real life sports contexts.

Although the qualification has a sport focus it is also suitable for any employer who needs to meet their regulatory requirements for emergency first aid in the workplace as a Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work can also be provided (please contact us to discuss).

Is this course compulsory/a prerequisite for another course?
No.

Entry Requirements:
Learners must be a minimum of 16 years old at registration and 16 years old at certification and be able to undertake the qualification in English.

Awarding Body Certificate:
1st4sport Qualifications (L3 Award in Emergency  First Aid at Work) and/or Hampden Sports, Health and injury Clinic (sports first aid)

Progression Routes:

Successful candidates can progress on to the Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work.

Delivery details:
Delivered over one weekday or one weekend day or two evenings (attendance at both is required from 5-9pm).
